    Sinners

This movie was unbelievable. In the good way, obviously. It’s impossible to ignore the music. The voices and melodies were so beautiful, and even though the songs were very folky, the production of it made it feel so cinematic and grand. This is fitting because music is such a huge part of this movie; again, the blues were the only thing the enslaved people were able to bring from Africa. And every time the music swelled, the way the screen expanded was just mind-blowing. The cinematography was so unique and innovative in this movie. The themes of Sinners is something I think each person should figure out on their own.…

    A Minecraft Movie

Honestly, I don’t know what Warner Bros were thinking when they made this movie. I thought I was going to like this movie, because I can appreciate a piece of high-quality brainrot content. But this movie wasn’t even brainrot; it was boring. And that is the worst thing a movie can possibly be.  First of all, every single character was executed abhorrently. The writers could have tried to work the spirit of the game into the script through the different characters, but it feels like they half tried for the little kid and gave up on everything else. The movie establishes that the kid (I won’t bother to search up…

    A Real Pain

This was a really good movie. I thought the themes of loneliness, family, and pain were really well executed. Also, some ideas of generational trauma, like the pain Benji and David have from their grandma’s experience in the concentration camps, reminded me a lot of Maus. It would make a person feel guilty to feel pain when they know their parents and grandparents have gone through such horrible things, even though everyone’s pain is valid.  I mean, you can’t say someone’s pain is real or fake, because we’re all human and hurting.  Though it was slow, the movie never felt long or boring, and the cinematography made all the sights…

    Fight or Flight

Watching this movie was another case of having to choose something for the entire family to watch. I was pretty excited though because I heard Fight or Flight is like the airplane version of Bullet Train, which is basically the pinnacle of action-comedy for me. However, after watching, I’m not sure if this movie will be nearly as memorable.  The first thing I wanted to talk about was the lead actor, Josh Hartnett. The first thing I thought of when I saw his face in the movie was that he’s a psychopath. Or serial killer. Or probably both. Then, I realized he was the serial killer from Shyamalan’s Trap. Considering…

    Heads of State

Choosing a movie as a family inevitably leads to sacrifices; obviously, I never would have chosen to watch this movie out of my own volition. I do have some things to say about it though, so let’s begin.  First of all, I was surprised by Priyanka Chopra being good in this movie. She was as believable an actor could be in fight scenes and dialogue in a movie like this. My mom told me how her previous forays in acting were subpar, so I wasn’t expecting much, but she was actually the highlight. Now, let’s talk about everything that was a bit goofy. I kept getting a sense of déjà…

    The Wild Robot

I am not really the type of person to cry during movies and books. Sure I sometimes get sad, but I never usually react visibly. However, when it came to the Wild Robot, not only was I crying at the end of the movie, but also at the halfway point. I didn’t know a movie had the capability to affect me this much until the Wild Robot.  The music was one of the most memorable parts. The notes have been engrained in my head like a Hans Zimmer soundtrack, which surprised me so much, because this is a kids movie. Like who spent this much time perfecting the theme to…

    Mr. Robot

This was such a goofy show. Computer science is not an area of interest for me, so I never expected I would be this entertained by a show about cybersecurity and hacking. I just finished watching the first season of Mr. Robot on Netflix, and even though it was really technical and computer science heavy, I found it so entertaining. I feel like the show makes really good use of an unreliable narrator; that’s a really good technique to keep the viewer guessing at all times. I don’t even want to reveal some of the plot twists at the end, because it’s something you have to watch for your self. The…

    Arcane

My number one show on Netflix has always been The Umbrella Academy. For so long, no other series has come close to topping it. However, after watching Arcane, I refuse to believe that anything on this planet could surpass the absolute genius this show is. I watched the first season of Arcane on my iPad during a road trip; I thought it was fine, and left it at that. But when the new season came out, I watched the first season again and I appreciated so much more about it. The music, the color choices, the animation; it was all perfect, and I couldn’t look away. Somehow, the second season…

    Dead Boy Detectives

An unhinged yet bingeable spinoff from the Sandman Universe that is so absurd that it’s entertaining I am always on the hunt for new Netflix shows to binge-watch, and I was pretty excited for “Dead Boy Detectives” to arrive! I haven’t watched the Sandman series yet, though I have read the comics and absolutely love them. This show follows the ghosts of two dead teens, Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne who run a detective agency to help other ghosts get closure and move on to their afterlives. They are in hiding and constantly on the run from Death, and a strange case leads them to meet Crystal, psychic who lost…

    Dune: Part Two

My first blog! The two and a half hour fever dream I don’t regret watching. Welcome! My name is Nithya, and this is my first ever blog. I just happened to watch Dune: Part Two last weekend after many months of waiting, and I have a lot to say about it! This blog does have some spoilers for the movie, so if you haven’t watched it and are interested in doing so, I do go into a lot of specifics. So besides that, let’s get started! As a sequel, Dune: Part Two is a very different experience when compared to the first part. Personally, I thought Dune was amazing! The…
