Fight or Flight

Watching this movie was another case of having to choose something for the entire family to watch. I was pretty excited though because I heard Fight or Flight is like the airplane version of Bullet Train, which is basically the pinnacle of action-comedy for me. However, after watching, I’m not sure if this movie will be nearly as memorable.

The first thing I wanted to talk about was the lead actor, Josh Hartnett. The first thing I thought of when I saw his face in the movie was that he’s a psychopath. Or serial killer. Or probably both. Then, I realized he was the serial killer from Shyamalan’s Trap. Considering I only watched like 5 minutes of Trap and I still remember that actor as a serial killer months later, it’s amazing how impactful Hartnett’s acting was in that movie.

Another face I was not expecting to see was the Diamond of the Season girl from Season 2 of Bridgerton, as Isha (Ghost), the Robin Hood-esque hacker of this movie. It was really nice to see more good Indian actors going on mainstream movies! And her character kind of became a joke between me and my sister; we renamed her Isha the Patriot because of her tendency to use rather violent methods for social change– a trait she shares with a certain Professor Moriarty from that one anime, Moriarty the Patriot.

And finally, let’s talk about the actual movie. I will say, their airplane graphics is leagues better than Heads of State (that person glitching while being thrown out of the Air Force 1 will never not be funny), but that’s a basic expectation for movie that completely takes place on a plane. But other than that? Nothing was really that memorable. It felt like a pretty common action movie. I just wish they had fully committed to the humor aspect like Bullet Train did, because Fight or Flight was a strange blend of serious topics but completely unserious characters.

So the lesson to be learned here is don’t go into this movie expecting Bullet Train. If you don’t want to watch something generic, don’t watch Fight or Flight.

Update: This movie earns a 4/10, mostly because of being generic and forgettable.
