The Old Guard

Two days ago, I went to the bookstore at our local mall. I headed right past the Tik-Tok books section right to the clearance. Usually, there’s nothing that I’m interested in: just printed webtoons, weirdly translated Epics, and random beach reads. But what I found that day was absolute gold. The first volume of the Old Guard comic just for five bucks. The amazon price is listed at $14. Needless to say, I bought it. I mean, the comics section of my shelf is seriously lagging behind the history, science, fiction, and classics sections.

The comics, both volumes, for the Old Guard are really good. Also, there’s just something so compelling about the plot: immortal warriors having to hide  because of the digital age, but also having to carry out missions. The backstories are interesting, and it feels like the comics understand the weight carried by the characters by being alive that long. And it’s impossible to talk about the comics without talking about the movie. The first movie was a faithful and memorable adaptation, and I would consider it one of the best movies on Netflix. I had high hopes for the second movie that came out recently, but after seeing it get review BOMBED, I decided not to ruin the story for myself. Anyways, just wanted to talk about this really good find at the bookstore, especially because the original price of most books are pretty staggering.

Update: The comics get a 7/10, and the movie gets an 8/10!
